Abstract

The intonation system of the language has been one of the topics that was neglected in Persian phonology. Nowadays that the way of understanding and processing natural sentences is at the center of attention and even its necessity in many technical and engineering areas is felt, this book, with the brief introduction of the theories and new concepts of this field, has attracted the attention of many researchers in this field. The notion of stress and its types, lexical stress and pitch accent, are discussed in this book. Although these two types of stress have been implicit in previous studies, their differences were not clearly stated. Also, the autosegmental-metrical phonology and intonation structure of the Persian language, along with a new concept of Phoneme called intonation phoneme, have been proposed. All of these provide new grounds for further investigations and rejecting or accepting hypotheses regarding the representations of intonation patterns along with the post-lexical meanings.
