Abstract

The book "Language and Migration" written by Yahya Modarresi seeks to address the issue of migration and its linguistic consequences. This work begins with the general issues of immigration and its linguistic, social, cultural and psychological consequences, and seeks to answer the question of what will be the impact of the host society on the language of immigrants after the migration? In this regard, extensive data are gathered and analyzed and valuable results are obtained. In this respect, the author believes that immigrant communities have different effects on the host community based on the degree of contacts and influence, which leads to the emergence of a continuum. On the one hand, there are people with one language and culture with their native linguistic and cultural identity, and on the other hand, there are people with one language and culture with the linguistic and cultural identity of the host country. As a result, the migration of Iranians to the United States, a large part of Iranian families of the first generation tend to preserve their national identity, culture and mother tongue, While second-generation Iranians, under the influence of the school environment, cultural pressures from their peers, lack of attention to the preservation of their native language and culture, gradually lose the skills of the Persian language. The author tries to emphasize that Iranians, despite migrating to the United States, are always trying to preserve their national religious ideals and mother tongue, and they love and respect their native language and culture.
