Abstract

The book is a translation of the original one entitled; “Minds without Meanings; An Essay on the Content of Concepts”, written by Jerry Fodor and Zenon Pylyshyn and translated by Gholamhossein Karimi dustan, Ramin hekmati, and abbas Nasri. The original book is published in 2014 by MIT Press, and the translated one is published by University of Tehran's Publication institute in 2017. Fodor and Pylyshyn present their experimental theory about reference in this book, and believe that the only semantic notion which is worth to be considered in scientific study is "reference". Both the original and the translated books consist of five chapters, and a reference list. The books do not have any note from the authors or the publisher. they also do not have any introduction section. The result of Fodor and Pylyshyn's work is to present a naturalistic theory based on the emphasis on reference in semantic issues. In this perspective, Frege's viewpoint is criticized and there is an emphasize on Kripke's theory of reference.
